WORLD SERIES

New York Yankees vs Milwaukee Braves

GAME #3 FULL GAME TV BROADCAST

The actual full-game TV broadcast of a vintage World Series game can now be seen again on DVD, thanks to the film restoration expertise of Rare Sportsfilms!   Every pitch of this classic game, except for Kubek’s second home run, is shown on this 3-hour DVD!   This was the first World Series game ever played in the state of Wisconsin.   It was also the first time that centerfield and behind-the-plate cameras were used during a World Series TV broadcast, a new NBC innovation that drew raves from fans across the country!   Mickey Mantle, Hank Aaron and Tony Kubek (2) hit home runs and the game sets a World Series record with 19 walks (the Braves leave the bases loaded four times and use six pitchers – everyone except Spahn and Burdette)!

At gametime, the 1957 World Series is tied at a game apiece as Braves fastballer Bob Buhl makes his first W.S. start against Bob Turley of the Yankees at old County Stadium, Milwaukee!    “Be there” in front of your old B & W TV set again 52 years later, as the first ball is tossed out and this memorable and historic game begins!   The first 4 ½ innings are called by veteran TV baseball play-by-play announcer Al Helfer and for the last half of the game, famed Yankee broadcaster Mel Allen calls the action!   You’ll see double plays, baseball arguments, much pinch-hitting and four home runs are hit!   This 3 hour DVD brings back all the memories of those early televised World Series games and baseball as it was played over half a century ago!

Live TV broadcasts from before 1965 are very rare.  Only five complete baseball game broadcasts from pre-1965 are known to exist and all are World Series games.  The two oldest are stored in the Museum of Broadcasting in NYC.  The others are in our private collection!  Because each complete game required at least five reels of kinescope film, the reels were easily lost and scattered, so when a TV broadcast did show up, it was always one or two reels (an inning or two) at best.    But what a treat nowadays to be able to see this game from the 1957 World Series!
