Each seven constellations are represented by an animal image. Xuanwu (玄武) is a general term for the seven constellations of North, its animal image is tortoise plus snake. It symbolizes the endless reproduction of life, longevity and good weather. Moreover, in Taoism, it is the God of the Northern Sky.
