Here are my tips: Plant 1/2" deep and in a "warm" sunny area. Tomatoes like sun and humidity. Transfer to ground 4-6 weeks. Let plant grow to about 1 foot before you transplant it outside. Water lightly daily when plant is in small pot. Once planted outside, rain twice a week is enough water. Don't water anymore than what the rain would give you or twice a week.
Tomatoes need HUMUS if you want to grow successfully. Tomatoes also "NEED" Sun and warmth to thrive. You can't grow tomatoes successfully inside in a window, however, you can start them. Once they are about 2 inches in height you need to harden them off. If you don't know what "hardening off" means, do an internet search.
