DESCRIPTION

Complete in four volumes.

In the original Italian.

'Luisa Strozzi' is a historical novel set in the sixteenth century. The novel is about Luisa, the daughter of Filippo Strozzi, the wealthiest and nobelist man in Italy. Luisa is of a rare beauty, attracting the attention of those she would rather avoid; the dissolute Aleesandro de Medici. Medici is upset when Luisa rejects him, and follows her to the French Court, where she escaped to avoid him.

'Luisa Strozzi' was Giovanni Rosini's second novel. Rosini was a poet and Professor, who taught rhetoric at the University of Pisa for most of his life. He also published the historical novels 'La Monaca di Monza', and 'Ugolino Gherardesca'. He wrote the poem 'The Marriage of Jupiter and Latona' upon the marriage of Napoleon and Marie Louise in 1810, and was awarded with a prize of 10,000 francs.

With a frontispiece to Volume I, showing 'Antonio Carafulla' by G. B. Gatti.
