DESCRIPTION

Bound in quarter leather and marbled paper-covered boards with gilt lettering and decoration.

This volume has amateur repairs to the binding. There are now additional cloth tips to the corners of the boards, new leather has been laid down over the hinges and the top and tail of the spine, and an additional tracing-paper front free-endpaper.

With notes, critical, historical, and explanatory, selected from the most eminent commentators; Mr. Malone's various readings; Dr. Johnson's preface; a life of the poet, by Alex. Chalmers; Shakspeare's will, with his autograph, from the original; a chronology of his plays; a list of the remarkable editions of his works; an inquiry into the plays ascribed to him; some account of his various portraits, and a copious glossary.

CONDITION

Bound in quarter leather and marbled paper-covered boards with gilt lettering and decoration. The binding is tight and firm. The front inner hinge has been reinforced. There is some wear to the extremities, with some rubbing and edge wear. Internally the pages are bright with scattered foxing. There is a tidemark to the lower section of the pages from the front through to approximately page 150. There is a ink inscription to the half title.
