Item Description
Up for your consideration is a fine Chinese chestnut bowl and underplate, c. 1760. The piece was made in Canton, and is considered a Chinese Export piece. It is reticulated, and painted in a famille rose decor, with floral designs and depictions of Chinese life throughout. The underplate is original to the basket.
The chestnut basket measures 11" tall, 9.25" wide, and 4" deep. The underplate is 11.5" x 9.75"
Overall, the chestnut basket is in excellent condition, showing light surface wear, normal factory imperfections, but no chips, cracks, or damage. The underplate has an old professional restoration. It is difficult to detect on the painted surface, but there are differences to the white glaze on the underside. The last three photos depict this clearly.
