Signed GEORGE Moore book Modern Painting

Updated version issued in 1897. Includes a two stanza poem in French and signature by George Moore.

Also worth noting is the wonderful book plate of William Hall Walker, 1st Baron Wavertree (25 December 1856 – 2 February 1933) was a British businessman, Conservative Party politician, avid art collector, and an important figure in thoroughbred racehorse breeding. This book would have been out of his own personal library and perhaps a gift from George himself.

Although best known as a novelist, Moore originally wanted to be an artist and had gone to Paris to study. There he met and became friendly with Manet and other French artists, and it was in Paris that he began to write on art. His writings are notable for their clarity of style and the perceptive taste and wit of the author.

This is one of the first books ever published on Modern Art and discusses many impressionist artist, and importance is emphasized with it still being in print over 100 years later.
