Sir James Mackintosh of Kyllachy, 1865 - 1832, was a Scottish politician, historian, and political writer. "Sir James's development, as both a political writer and a politician, is better understood in terms of his ongoing advocacy of reasonable reform. His desire for liberal and democratic reform remained consistent throughout his adult life, and is as evident in his early assertion of the ‘rights of man’ as in his attack on later revolutionary excess or his promotion of national freedoms and animal rights in the 1820s, or an extension of the franchise during the Reform Bill
