Item Description
Up for your consideration is a fine original print in colors depicting Napoleon in exile in Saint Helela, where he resided between 1817 - 1821. This poster was printed in the early 1830s, according to a French resource, although they did not have an example of this particular piece, showing its rarity . It depicts a drooping French flag, Napoleon gazing in disgrace, with broken French military items near the bottom. It is marked "Georgin. SC", likely for the artist, and "Fabrique de Pellerin, Imprimeur-Libraire, a Epinal" for the printer. Please note that you will see several reflections in the photographs. These were unavoidable, and appear as light discolorations. They are a by-product of my photography, and are not really present.
The piece has been custom framed and matted, and is quite large. The poster measures 15.5" x 24.5", and the outer dimensions of the frame are 22" x 31".
The print is in excellent antique condition. It is complete, and free of rips, tears, or restorations. There is some light creasing, with some more pronounced wear in the upper corners, but nothing significant or distracting. The piece is on a light brown stock, thus it appears to have darkened, but is actually near the original color. The red and blue are still distinct, with light fading. The upper right corner may have an old tape mark. The frame is new, and in excellent condition.
