DESCRIPTION

Regarded by his peers as one of the best writers of the 19th century, Oliver Wendell Holmes was considered a member of the Fireside Poets. The "Breakfast-Table" series was his most famous prose works which began with 'The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table' (1858). He is also commonly recognized as an important medical reformer.

The "Breakfast-Tables" series include three table-talk books attracted a diverse audience due to their conversational style, which made readers feel an intimate connection to the author, and resulted in a flood of letters from admirers. The series' conversational tone is not only meant to mimic the philosophical debates and pleasantries that occur around the breakfast table, but it is also used in order to facilitate an openness of thought and expression.

CONDITION

In half morocco bindings with marbled boards. Externally, generally smart, with some rubbing and marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound, bright and clean. The slip case is rather worn with the paper working loose in parts and some shelfwear. Slip case is good only.
