• Canada's own Gilles Villeneuve took the checkered flag at the first FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DU CANADA in Montreal in 1978.
•  The legendary driver was killed in a tragic accident during qualifications for the Belgian Grand Prix in May, 1982. 
• The Montréal track was renamed Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in his honour.

• Brazilian racing legend Ayrton Senna dominated Formula 1 racing in the mid-1980s,
•  with 41 Grand Prix wins and three World Championships.

• Prolific German racer Michael Schumacher holds nearly ever record in the book. From the 1990s to mid-2000s, 
• he claimed seven World Championships, won 91 Grand Prix races (including seven in Canada), and made 155 podium appearances.

• British racing champion Lewis Hamilton had his first F1 victory at the 2007 FORMULA ONE GRAND PRIX DU CANADA. 
• His many records include youngest driver to lead the World Championship standings and most podium finishes in a season.
