Offering this exceptional pair of architectural wood temple carvings, likely from southeast Asia. Each corbel has three vertical figures - a warrior riding a horse at the top (possibly gods), a foo dog or lion, and a peacock. They are hand-carved, so each has its own distinctive character. There are a couple slots in each where they were mortised into the rest of the temple construction. You can see the natural features of the wood on the back.

There is also an old gallery note on a yellowed piece of tape that these were to be held for a client many decades ago. The camera flash washed out the woodtone in some pictures; these are darker than they appear in the close-up shots. There is the normal age and exposure wear to the wood including natural splits and small chips around the edges, but these are nevertheless very solid and completely intact with no repairs. Each measures about 30" tall and 8 1/2" wide.

(Please note that these carvings are very heavy. Depending on the buyer's location, I may ship them separately. Shipping is included, so please consider the cost when making an offer. Local pick-up is available.)
