Background: “Kaiju” (怪獣, kaijū) is a Japanese word meaning "strange beast" or "monster" and commonly is used to refer to the genre of Japanese monster movies like Godzilla. “Sofubi” (ソフトビニール) is a Japanese contraction meaning " soft vinyl”. The designation "Sofubi" refers both to the material used to create a figure, and to the design style, finishing techniques, and underlying principles applied to each piece.
History: Japanese toy manufacturer Takara launched Micromen in 1974, preempting the Star Wars ''toy in your pocket'' philosophy and the line was a massive success. Microman has a rich history and legacy as these were later introduced to the Western audiences as Mego’s Micronauts. Takara gave-up on the main Microman line for some years, but in 1999 they revisited the series and issued a number of replica figures.
