Abe Holtzmann UNCLE SAMMY No.1689 COLUMBIA Phonograph Co.1904 Rare 7” 78 USA NY

The 7” single sided 78 RPM record (shellac) is a recording of Abe Holzmann’s march and two-step, “Uncle Sammy”. Sammy, in this case, refers to the USA’s Uncle Sam, the personification of the US Government.

Holzmann was an American composer from NYC who lived from 1874 to 1939. He was known as a classical composer, famous for his march “Blaze-Away”.

The record plays on a single side. There are age related issues including a hairline crack (seen on both sides) scuffs and a flea bite on the rim. Please take a close look at the photos for more specifics.

The Columbia Phonograph Company, the record label, was originally known as the Columbia Gramophone Company and founded in 1887. You can see the record number, 1689, impressed into the shellac under the number on the label. One sided singles were made for the first two decades up until about 1908.
