This Shear Cap Pedestal Mount enables a combination of a low-profile design to work with a highly effective vibration absorption characteristics. It achieves this through using rubber in shear rather than in compression for its primary loading direction.
Other advantages of this design include more consistent vibration absorption patterns when the item is mounted horizontally and when it is mounted at an angle. It should be mounted horizontally and loaded in compression as per usual for a pedestal mount. However, the advantage of fairly consistent performance when tilted is for use on moving vehicles, especially boats which often spend extended periods of time leaning over.
Shear mounts are often single bonded and failsafe. This product is double bonded and is not failsafe. The advantage of being double bonded is a longer life in more extreme applications. Reduced wear due to fewer moving surfaces prolongs product life.
