Pastel Paintings by Jan Ponder

"Butterfly on Rudbeckia"
ORIGINAL PASTEL PAINTING
OF A BUTTERFLY PERCHED IN THE MIDST OF RUDBECKIA (CONEFLOWER) BLOOMS.

An original pastel painting by Jan Ponder, an accomplished artist who has worked in photography, encaustic, and pastels for many years. Ms Ponder's works of this size typically sell in the $75-$250 range, unframed.

This painting was created from a photograph taken of a patch of rudbeckia, more commonly known as Coneflowers or Black-Eyed Susans, in my own garden. My flowers attract all kinds of butterflies (I planned it that way!), as well as rabbits who've built a warren in my shrubs.

Colors include bursts of golden yellow highlighted by the nearly-black background, with accents of orange and green.

This particular painting is executed in a slightly more primitive style than my usual, but I found it no less joyful to create!

Your original pastel painting is ready to frame. Approximately 1/4" of the paper will be hidden by the edge of the frame unless you decide to dry mount onto another board or mat for a "floating" effect. Your framer should be able to advise you.

The painting will ship flat, sandwiched between two pieces of rigid foam core or cardboard, covered with glassene (tracing paper), then wrapped for mailing via USPS Priority Mail.

Here are comments from two recent ebay buyers of my art:

Just a short note to say how totally delighted I am with this piece. I paint myself, and admire the work of other artists. This is so exquisite. Thank-you so very much for creating this masterwork. I am honored to add it to my collection of master artists. Kind Regards. — C.O.

I just wanted to let you know that I received my ABSOLUTELY STUNNING pictures today and absolutely LOVE THEM!!! They are truly exquisite! You certainly have such a tremendous talent! I am so thrilled with them both. ... I just love the pictures! The colors are so vibrant, just so amazing in person. In addition, I plan to have them both professionally framed to enhance their beauty! ... It has been such a pleasure to purchase from you! I wish you the best always! You deserve it! Kindest Regards — K

About Me

You're never too old to enhance your life with art. I was 73 when I fell in love with photography and all its aspects. I joined two different photography clubs and for 7 years went on field trips and excursions all over the US and around the world photographing the landscapes, flora, and more, of the many places I visited. I studied, worked hard, and entered competitions all over Northern Virginia winning multiple awards and acceptance into juried exhibitions and shows.

Along this journey I discovered something new: encaustic. The word means to burn in. Technically, it is painting with hot wax. I was intrigued with the dimensional effect one could achieve. For the past three years I have been painting with pastels along with encaustic and sometimes combining the two.

I have traveled around the country to learn from master artists of encaustic and pastel painting. As I continue learning and working on variations in those media, I also lecture and give demonstrations myself to aspiring and practicing artists.

In 2018 I was very successful with my pastels. One was accepted into an international show at Gallery Underground in Crystal City, Virginia. I was also juried into The Art League gallery at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia six times, winning Honorable Mention for "Winter Ride" in an exhibit juried by Fidencio Fifield-Perez--which then sold at the show. My pastel "Meadowlark Fall Day" was chosen for the 2018 town of Vienna calendar and another, "Going Home" was chosen for the 2019 version.

In 2019 I had pieces accepted into the Treasury of Art show at the Vienna Arts Society, The Art League show (three separate times), the Labor Day Art Show at Glen Echo Park, and I recently won the "Best in Show" award at the Torpedo Factory's 10th Annual March150 Special Exhibition at the Target Gallery, with a piece called "The Traveler."

I am a member of both Vienna Art Society and The Art League Gallery at the Torpedo Factory Art Center.

I really love doing this--it keeps me young!

TERMS

To Buyers

Most, if not all of my listings require instant payment through Buy It Now.

***NOTICE*** If you are the buyer of this listing and for any reason cancel your purchase BEFORE or AFTER I ship it out, you will be charged a $5.00 fee to compensate me for the time I invest in wrapping, boxing, and packaging the item; purchasing and printing out a shipping label, etc. It takes USPS up to two weeks to reimburse me for a label that I don't use. The same $5.00 fee applies if you manage to get me to approve a return. This amount will be deducted from the total you are refunded. It helps to cover any selling fees which I do not get back, as well as the time and inconvenience undertaken to accommodate you. Thanks for understanding.

Issues

Please read the item description thoroughly. I have done my best to represent the item accurately, noting any defects. You have 10 days from the date you receive your purchase to contact me with any issues. Beyond that time, you can not expect sellers to make allowances contrary to their policies.

Shipping

I have endeavored to package all of my paintings as securely and safely as possible without incurring excessive charges. The painting will ship flat, sandwiched between two pieces of rigid foam core or cardboard, covered with glassene (tracing paper), then wrapped for mailing via USPS Priority Mail.

I no longer ship paintings via First Class mail, opting to get the painting through the mail system as quickly as possible, cutting down on the potential for damage or loss. Should your package arrive slightly bent, there is a good chance that the painting is still intact and wholly unharmed. Please endeavor to carefully open your package and examine the painting before assuming it has suffered any damage.

If you require a different or faster mode of shipment than what is offered, please email  me before purchasing. If you require the item be received by a specific date, please email and let me know. I will make every effort to accommodate you.

All sales are FINAL

Please read the item description carefully. Paintings are not returnable. Please make your selection carefully. I have done my best to take the most accurate photo(s) possible, however it is impossible to capture every bit of the essence of a physical work of art on camera. Most people are pleasantly surprised that the works are more beautiful in person then on their computer screen! I am happy to take more photos-- closeups if desired. So if you require more pictures or any other information, please do not hesitate to message me through ebay.

Thanks for looking at my art!
