Nicolas de Blegny became the physician to the Duc d'Orleans, Queen Marie Therese and King Louis XIV of France. Following accusations of plagiarism and fraud he fell from grace and was incarcerated for eight years. Prior to this, Blegny wrote several works, such as reviews on coffee, tea and chocolate, he founded the first medical journal, 'Nouvelles Decouvertes' and also wrote on many doctrines
This medical journal looks at the most recent discoveries in medicine at the time of publication. Its French title is 'Les nouvelles decouvertes sur toutes les parties de la medicine'. This was first published in 1679 and originally reported the transactions of his society, the Academy of Recent Discoveries in Medicine. The medical journal was later published after three years as a collection titled 'Zodiacus Medico-Gallicus'.
