DESCRIPTION

A very scarce pamphlet.

ESTC reference no R19980.

This is setting A referred to by the ESTC with signature mark 'A' on A1 under 'es' of 'unless'. The first line of p.4 reads 'Lastly, if he has' with a lower case 'i'.

This work was written in response to Elkanah Settle's pamphlet 'The Character of a Popish Successor'. Settle was a poet and playwright, who took an active share in the anti-Popish agitation. However, later he exposed Titus Oates and with the Revolution of 1688 his political leanings were more towards the Whigs.

This is an analysis and response to Settle's pamphlet. Following this work, Settle later recanted his 'The Character of a Popish Successor' and cited the danger of the opinions he expressed.
