Toyota Tacoma Truck Air Conditioner Cooler Stabilizer Amplifier module in good shape.
This works in ALL years and models using this SAME module.
Be sure this is the same as the one you are replacing.
NOTE: This works with several other electrical components within the AC system. This will NOT fix your problem if you are not sure exactly what is causing your AC system to not work. If the freon level is low. The low pressure sensor will prevent the system from turning on. If the thermostat is malfunctioned and stuck in the "open" position. Your system will not turn on. Both those components can very easily be bypassed with jumper wires to see if either of those items are preventing the system from turning on. Of course the basics is to verify the systems is getting power and not just the green light on the button lighting up. Verify the fuses and relays are good and functional. If you bypass your low pressure sensor and the compressor comes on. DO NOT run your system with low Freon. Get it fix and charged. This AMP card is the central control for all those components including the compressor clutch. Card only works as good as the parts already in your system.
Story
Time: Not necessary to read if you don't want to, but its educational
about IDIOT mechanics and a recent high repair estimate I had for a AC
repair for my 2018 Tacoma! A lot of mechanics working in shops these
days including Toyota Dealers are complete IDIOTS. I'd say for a lot of
things most of you can do a better job fixing your car using YouTube and
Google then a lot of shops will. I do almost all my own work my self on
all my Toyotas since the mid 1980s. I had to instruct a service
managers at one of my local Toyota dealer as recently as last year to
take a logical approach to a problem. Mechanics these days do not work
by common sense or simple process of elimination. They are like robots and work by what a computer or
manual tells them to do. My local Toyota dealer was going to completely
drain and replace the AC compressor in my 2018 Tacoma last summer cause
my system kept shutting down after a few seconds. Price out how much
R1234YF Freon cost and you'll crap your. Then you will see how much a shop can
make by selling you a AC recharge with that expensive new Freon even if they do
NOT do a recharge on the system, but charge you for it. You would never
know. Most vehicles made since 2018 have the new R1234YF Freon. Anyways,
the dealer was going by the book/computer and going to rip into the
mechanical / refrigeration part of the system trying hang me with nearly
a $3,000 repair estimate. I laughed at them and asked why the hell are
you going into the compressor and refrigeration first? Its
obviously a electrical issue, not mechanical / refrigeration. I got the
service manager and took him to my truck and said watch this. I popped
the fuse / relay cover off the main box by the battery. Pulled the
relay for "CLUTCH" Its the relay the actually puts powers the compressor
clutch and engages it. I jumped the relay socket with a jumper wire and
the engine idled up and compressor kicked on and the system completely
cooled down to normal cooling temperature just above 40 degrees on a 85
degree day. I asked him to explain to me why you need to rip the whole
system apart when it clearly works when the compressor gets power and
engages? I told him the problem is up stream in the electrical from this
relay since its not getting any power to trip to engage the compressor
clutch. He was like you kinda know a lot about how these things work. I
said actually I do since I have installed AC systems in every generation
Pre Tacoma Toyota truck over the last 35 years starting with my 1977
Truck in 1988 with my first AC system install to eventually to a 1982
4x4 truck then to a 1985 4x4, 1986, 1987 and 1991 models. Basic common
sense is what led me to jump the compressor relay and verify the $3,000
repair estimate was a bunch of crap. He then said let me get my best
mechanic on it that is a wizard with electrical and see what he finds. I
said now thats more like it. The dealer called me later that day and
said they found a loose wire in one of the plug sockets in the main dash harness under the dash.
My repair estimate went from $3,000 to $190. SO, don't go saying my
mechanic said....... Go get a second opinion. ALWAYS. Especially if you
do not know much about what your looking at or doing. Fortunately I know
a lot about cars and often more then some of these idiot mechanics. Its
not to uncommon in auto repair settings I get someone recommending
services or repairs on stuff I know is just fine. Its so unfortunate
that 95% of car owners barely know how to drive them correctly let alone
know when a mechanic is selling them crap or repairs they don't need.
As for why I didn't try repairing this issue my self. Well a 2018 Tacoma
along with just about anything else made in the last 15 plus years
requires a lot of special specific tools and computer diagnostics. Pretty much
why I let the dealer do the AC diagnostics on my 2018 Tacoma. It was
well worth it to me especially since I was smart enough to debunk that
$3,000 diagnostics estimate they came up with making them find the
actual issue of just a loose wire. At least your smart enough to be in a Toyota. By all means NEVER choose any European brand or model. If you must have one for some status ooh look at me reason. Buy or lease NEW with a warranty then dump it immediately after the factory warranty expires. Most owners of those brands lack much knowledge of cars and reliability and buy for pure status and attention.
