An herbaceous tuberous perennial, it grows up to 4-6 inches tall, or 10-15 cm. It is valued for its daisy-like flowers over a fern like foliage, which appear in early spring, a time when little else is in flower. The flowers colours range from white, pink, blue and lilac.
Anemone Blanda should be planted in the autumn in partially shady areas, and in moist soil. It can also grow in full sun if the soil stays moist. It grows in any well-drained soil which dries out in summer; hence it is often used for under planting deciduous trees which provide the necessary conditions. It rapidly colonizes any favoured location. The plant is deciduous, meaning the flowers and leaves die in the early summer. The flowers attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
Plant corms in autumn 8cm deep and 8cm apart. Soak corms in water before planting.
The leaves die back a few weeks after flowering and the roots creep along close to the surface, therefore be sure to mark or label the growing position of naturalised plantings, so that they are not disturbed or accidentally dug-up later in the season.
In colder areas the corms can be lifted in autumn and stored over-winter in a frost-free spot.
