USA Scott #304 stamp tied by two August 22, 1908 Lowell, Massachusetts machine cancels and interesting London W. 2. 2.30 PM 6-bar machine cancel on redirected cover to Inverness and again to Edinburgh. Damaged between London and Edinburgh with manuscript notation on reverse, 'Received Torn' and repaired with three type 5 seals, each precanceled with Edinburgh date stamps. (King Edward VII Type 5 Crown 3 Bold Serifed 'Found Open and Officially Sealed.', Perf 11, Imprint 'M. - No. 11.' at UL, EKU 4/6/1908)

Sent 1908, beautiful as is condition. (Seals by definition were used to repair damaged mail caused by a wide variety of conditions and found in a wide range of condition.)

This cover appeared in the exhibit of the late Jim Kotanchik's Gold Medal award winning exhibit, "Official Seals of Great Britain" The exhibit was probably last shown at Westpex in 2009. It is possible that some of the information contained therein is no longer current. Jim Kotanchik was a highly regarded expert in worldwide seals.
