This perennial wildflower is deer resistant. Also known as bee balm, horsemint, and wild monarda. Bergamot is native to the United States and a part of the Mint (Lamiaceae) family. Likewise, the leaves smell of fresh mint and are used to make mint tea and pressed for mint oil. The pom pom flowers of wild bergamot are lavender in color, edible (cake toppers, in salads, vinegars and used to make jelly). In addition, bee balm bergamot flowers are also commonly featured in medicinal teas, tinctures and oxymels.

Wild bergamot medicinal properties include: anti-microbial, a soothing digestive aid, anti-spasmotic (suggesting an ease in cramping ailments), and nerving (nerve calming). Bergamot is a wise choice for your garden. It is heat tolerant, reaches about 3 ft tall and blooms from May through September. Even better is that it grows in all of the different soil types (even clay).

Germination instructions: Monarda Fistulosa seeds need light to germinate. Sow seeds on moist bedding by speading them evenly on top of the soil, gently pressing them so that they will stay snuggly in the moisture of the soil, meanwhile ensuring they don't sink into darkness when watering. Keep the seeds and soil moist during the entire germination phase. Germination time takes up to 28 days.
