Presenting a magnificent antique figural lime spatula masterfully hand carved from ebony wood by a native Papua New Guinean from the Massim region of the Trobriand Islands. This piece is believed to date to the late 1800 or early 1900s.
This exceptional example has a beautifully carved figural handle detailed with finely incised zoomorphic facial features and a zig zag band to the body.
The dark timber has developed an appealing patina that only time can bring.
This piece is an outstanding example which is both visually attractive and a delight to hold and touch.
SIZE: This impressive lime spatula measures approx approx 29cms in length.
CONDITION: This exquisite example is presented in excellent antique condition with no breaks or losses. There are two incredibly fine and tight surface cracks to the dense timber handle noticeable only on extremely close examination but mentioned for complete accuracy. Light signs of age and use, along with an appealing mellow patina add a magnificent charm to this authentically antique example. This exceptional piece has been very well cared for and presents spectacularly.
