Lost wax bronze casting of "Duck", created by German craft artist Karen Schmidt (abt 1946-2014). and commissioned by Modern Art Foundry. Edition size is limited. Measures 3.5 inches tall, 3.75 inches wide and 6 ½ inches long, with a beautiful dk bluish gray patina accenting surface qualities, highlights, and details. This is initialed, with foundry markings, year cast present. Weight is 3 pounds.  Two mounting holes are present and pins are included.

 Karen Schmidt lived in a small farm town near Bremen Germany. She was the cousin of Modern Art Foundry's former President, Robert Spring. For many years she had worked in terracotta and created small figures and animals, which were painted and sold in local shops in Germany. During a trip to New York City, she created works exclusively for Modern Art Foundry's Alternative Space and Spring Gallery.

The art of lost wax casting, practiced for over 4000 years, is an incredibly precise metal casting technique.  Properly executed, it ensures accurate, detailed reproduction of an original sculpture.  Historically used for many types of work from miniature to colossal in size,  the process allows for variations in finish and final appearance.  Artistic and labor intensive, projects may take weeks or more leading to ultimate value in every creation.
