My Dear Friend
Can U. bear with the “change of direction” (not of the invalid’s will but) imposed by the Dr. It was my determination to “spound and explain” myself the coming Sunday ---- I know I am equal to the talk: but this A.M. the Dr. has positively forbidden it.
Now is it 2 late to ask U. to help me? Will Beverly wish to exchange with U.? Can U. do me a favor; and will U. It is to call on my friend Revd. Mr. Lothrop 42 Court St. I writ him some week ago begging a gift for Sunday after next; Will U.C. him and ask if he can help me next Sunday, or let him no. that U. have arranged for me that day. And please say that I want no aid for the 25th.
I might write this to him (as U. may think I ought to do thus giving U. no trouble) but as U.r. somewhat brought into my arrangements by yr. own kindness I want U. to take your choice either of ‘xchanging with Beverly -- coming yourself -- or begging (in my name (to beg sturdily) ) Lothrop to aid me next Sunday.
Do stop some Evng. on yr. way down? U. shall ha’ famous Buckwheatz -- this to a Transcendentalist! -- and I will beat U. at B.k.m. If inconvenient to stop, please send me a line saying that U. will c. to it, that some l., bearing the impress of a man and the ...bid..i (?) of a monk, stand i’ my Desk the coming S.
Tother 1⁄2 wants to no if I don’t think as her kind and grateful remembrance “affected” U. that her Love will dis-affect U. again?
