DESCRIPTION

This was published less than five years after the aquarium exploded in popularity with Philip Henry Gosse coining the term and creating the first public aquarium, situated in London Zoo.

With chapters on molluscs, zoophytes, barnacles and ascidians and the fish and crustaceans of the aquarium.

Written by Henry Noel Humphries (1810-1879), a British illustrator and naturalist. His other works were generally regarding insects, and include 'The Butterfly Vivarium', 'The Genera of British Moths' and 'Insect Changes'.

Containing twelve hand-coloured plates. Collated, complete.


CONDITION

In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally a trifle worn, with some loss to the tail of the spine and a chip to the centre of the spine. Extremities are rubbed. Internally generally firmly bound, with the binding exposed after the front endpaper. Pages are bright and clean with just the odd spot.
