DESCRIPTION

Thomas Hood (17999-1845) was a celebrated English poet remembered for poems including 'The Bright of Sighs' and 'The Song of the Shirt'. He was hailed by William Michael Rossetti as being the 'finest English poet' between the generations of Tennyson and Shelley. His work was often humorous in style, and he regularly contributed to Punch and the London Magazine.

Edited by writer and critic William Michael Rossetti (1829-1919) whose other works include editing the first British edition of Walt Whitman's poetry, contributions to the 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica and a memoir of Percy Bysshe Shelley.

CONDITION

In a full crushed morocco binding. Externally generally smart, with some slight rubbing to the raised bands, head of the spine and extremities. Contemporary ownership inscription to the front blank. Internally, generally firmly bound, with some straining to the front hinge, which remains firm. Pages are bright and clean.
