IMPERIAL PARK AT GEHOL DAVENPORT c1810 Pair Dessert Sauce Tureens Pearlware B&W

MAKER:  Davenport c.1793-1810

PATTERN: View of the Imperial Park at Gehol adapted from the source print “View in the Eastern Side of the Imperial Park at Gehol” by William Alexander, included in John Barrow’s Travels in China, London, 1804. This pattern is one of the patterns discovered at President James Madison’s estate and was used by the Madison family. The pattern is included in Chinoiserie: Printed British Ceramics in the Chinese Style, 1750-1900, by R. Halliday and L. Zeller, Gomer Press, 2018.

MATERIAL: Pearlware with Blue Transfer

PIECE NAME: Pair of Sauce or Dessert Tureens (please contact me if interested in purchasing singly).

DIMENSIONS: 7" tall and  6 3/4" across saucer.

CONDITION: One underplate has very light crazing - both have light surface wear.  One lid is excellent the other has 4 small flakes, 2 of which are to the underside.  One tureen has a fleabite or two to the base, the other has a large chip to the mouth rim leading to ~3" hairline. Both have some very light utensil marks.  They're a lovely pair that appear to be lightly used for their 200+ years but they do have a few flaws from occasional rough treatment...
