SAMURAI british army (ARU) Tommy Soldier Remembrance Rugby Shirt
The Army Rugby Union in partnership with Samurai Sportswear are proud to launch the 9th annual remembrance design - The Tommy Shirt.
Much thought and consideration is put into the concept and design of the remembrance product each year to produce garments fitting to acknowledge the sacrifice made in the past and that continues to be made by our serviceman and women. Significantly this year we mark the centenary of the end of the first world war and remember all those who served, sacrificed and changed our world in 1918-2018 #thankyou100
The original concept behind the 2018 shirt 'The Tommy Soldier' was to display 100 poppies to acknowledge 100 years since the Armistice ceasefire of WW1 on the 11th November 1918. The design has evolved to produce the outstanding end product. The mosaic poppy pixels build an atmospheric background behind the lone Tommy Soldier, where visual textures from the original photograph have been captured to create a 3D depth within the design.
The photograph used within the design is of Ray Lonsdale's Corten Steel statue and was taken by photographer Graham Dobson. The statue was originally a temporary art installation in County Durham, but through local funding it has now been made a permanent fixture.
