Being offered on this auction is
table ashtray made by Meissen,
Germany, in
Flower Painting pattern. Meissen describes this pattern as “Symbols of
optimism, emergence, and transience, flowers have always played a special
role in the way that people interact”. Pattern ranks with the best classic
porcelain decorations. This tray has
round shape with one cigarette cavity. It is of white background with pink
rose, green stem, and blue forget-me-nots painted at the center and few
flowers in orange, yellow, and purple on the rim. Rim is completed by gold ring. Meissen cross swords mark in blue
is printed under glaze on the backside. According to my books this is
production of
c. 1935.
Other
marking is 38a / 17 in red, blue dot, and incised 9234 on the backside.
Ashtray measures about 3 5/8” in diameter
and ¾” deep. Condition is immaculate
with no chips or cracks. Colors are bright and vibrant. Gold has no wear. There are no cancel bars
