EXQUISITE EXAMPLE OF KNOTTENBELT BRITANNIA CREEK ART GLASS
This perfectly proportioned example has been spectacularly coloured with random wafts and veins of opaque milky opalescent white encased within the clear glass form. The striking wafts of opalescent white float cloud-like within the glass, adding an ethereal lightness to the form. The wafts of colour perfectly follow the sleek contour of the form, condensing at the flared rim. A multitude of tiny encapsulated air bubbles add a dazzling jewel-like sparkle to the glass.
SIZE: This delightful piece stands approx 115mms tall and measures 160mms in diameter at the top rim.
CONDITION: This exquisite hand crafted bowl is presented in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. This piece has been very well cared for and presents spectacularly.
MARKS: This fine example is beautifully signed and dated to the base "BCG 85".
THE ARTIST: Rob Knottenbelt is quiet achiever, preferring to tuck himself away from the limelight to focus on the creative process. However, his extreme skill as a glass artist combined with the fact that he is widely regarded as a pioneer in the contemporary Australian Glass movement has not gone unnoticed and his magnificent work is highly desirable.
There is no doubt Knottenbelt has been a leader in the Australian Glass Movement. He was the first person to commence work at the Adelaide Jam Factory in 1975 and has worked within the area of Contemporary Glass ever since. He was also a co-founder of the National body for Glass Artists AusGlass. Moving to Victoria in 1983, Knottenbelt set up a private studio in the Yarra Valley in 1984 naming it Britannia Creek Glass.
Knottenbelt has exhibited consistently with his works featuring in public and private collections in Australia and around the world.
