Description:

This is a lovely, cased set of George III, solid silver salad servers in the ‘Old English Feather’ pattern. I don’t know if the case is the original, but the servers fit well.

The case is of oblong shape with rounded ends and has an oxblood coloured, leather effect outer covering; with the interior having a royal blue velvet lined base and satin lined lid.

Condition:

The Servers: Apart from the usual fine surface scratching commensurate with age and use, they are in excellent condition for 222 years old; in fact, I think they have had very little use over the years, as they are in remarkable condition. There is a monogram to the top of the handles, shown in my photographs.

The Case: Apart from a few, very minor scuffs to the exterior; slight crushing to the velvet in the interior and two small snags to the satin in the lid (from the prongs of the spork), it is in very good condition, with the hinges and clasp in good order.

Measurements:

The Servers: Measure approx. 21.8 cm long, with the bowls 7.5 cm x 4.6 cm, across the widest parts and have a combined weight of 121.8 grams / 3.916 ozt.

The Case: Measures approx. 26 cm x 11.5 cm x 4 cm.

Hallmarks:

The servers are fully hallmarked with; the leopard’s head crowned for the London assay office, the lion passant guardant for English .925 silver, the date letter for 1800, the head of King George III as duty stamp and the maker’s mark for Thomas Wallis II.

A lovely pair of servers to own and enjoy using or add to your collection!
