Snap Shot Photograph of Store Window Display of
Sunshine Biscuits, 4 ½ x 3 ½ inches, “36” written on pencil on back, probably
early 1900’s, probably American, creases to photograph, bad corner crease upper
right, soil spot on top pennant, wonderful window display with boxes of biscuits
and oatmeal stacked into the shape of a steam ship, there is a sign in the
center that says “Sunshine Biscuit Week, Week of May 20 to 27”, felt pennants
printed “Sunshine Biscuit” are on the left, small American flags are at the top
of the masts and at the bow and stern of the “ship”, 2 packages of “Sunshine
Saltines” placed on end form the smoke stacks of the ship and the wax paper
holding the crackers is pulled out to simulate smoke, the photo was taken
through the glass and you can see trees and a telephone pole as well as a
person reflected in the window, very clever window dressing nicely preserved in
this fragile photo.
