Voigtlander Technika 240mm Heliar Pristine Legendary Portrait Lens

Offered here is a pristine example of perhaps the finest portrait lens ever made for 5X7 photography. The "Heliar flair" was famous among the premier portrait photographers around the world from the late 1940s through the mid 1970s. "The main use of the Heliar was (and is) as a portrait lens. Used wide open the lens shows a slightly reduced contrast and resolution (by today’s standards), without being a soft focus lens like the Universal Heliar or Rodenstock Imagon. It has always been praised for its pleasing rendering of out of focus areas (“bokeh”). Both features contribute to the “Heliar look”. The Heliar becomes gradually sharper and achieves high resolution when stopped down, and at f/16-f/22 it is indistinguishable from a modern lens." The optical construction is 5 elements in 3 groups. The Voigtlander Technika lenses were produced as a collaboration between Voigtlander and Linhof with Voigtlander producing the glass and mounting it into the cells and then Linhof technicians selecting the best examples from Voigtlanders production line and taking those and mounting them for use with Linhof cameras. This individual lens is a beautiful example (likely produced in the early 1960s), factory mounted in a German made standard Compound #4 shutter with original factory standard flash sync. The aperture range is  F4.5-F32 and a fully mechanical shutter which has speeds from 1 second to 1/75th of a second plus bulb and time. The shutter has a standard flash sync socket and is in proper working order. The original mounting flange is included with the shutter. The glass is exceptionally beautiful. It is bright and clear with no marks, haze, fog, fungus or anything else that would diminish image quality. It is as fine an example as you are ever likely to find. While the lens is very highly regarded for portrait work, it is also well suited for product and commercial work. The lens will cover 4X5 and 5X7 with good movement and 8X10 at infinity focus with limited movement from the middle apertures down. If you are searching for the best, you should add this classic to your kit today.
