Ajax - Greek hero bust.

This bust of mythological Greek hero Ajax is a dynamic piece of classicism . It measures 8 1/2" high , 4 1/2" wide and 3" deep . It is after a copy of a Benedetto Boschetti work , by Giambologna . This one is bronze toned steel with gilded accents . Ajax , King of Salamis , son of King Telamon and Periboea , was a Greek hero in the siege of Troy , as featured in Homers ' Iliad ' . He was renowned for his great courage and strength . He is featured as usual in his war helmet decorated on each side with a winged centaur , Hercules holding the skin of the Nemean Lion slain in one of his 12 labors , and an eagle on either side of the helmets visor . Slung over his shoulder and across his chest is a gilded sword strap . It is mounted on a square white marble base . A truly impressive piece of sculpture evoking ancient Greeces mythological history .
