DESCRIPTION

Second edition. 

A small volume adapted to suit the unskilled and unlearned in fern gardening, covering topics of fern collection, cultivation, management and the art of multiplying ferns. 

Shirley Hibberd was one of the most popular gardening writers of the Victorian era, experiencing much success. He was the editor of three gardening magazines and wrote over a dozen books on gardening and natural history.  

With eight chromolithographic plates and forty wood engravings. With four pages of publisher's adverts.  
Collated, complete.


CONDITION

In the publisher's original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with some light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and a few marks to the boards. Both hinges are weak and the front free endpaper has come away but is present. Internally, the binding is loosening to the front and rear of the volume. Pages are bright and generally clean with a few scattered spots.
