Magnolia stellata
'Royal Star' is ideal for adding spring colour to smaller gardens! You’ll love
the large, pristine white, semi-double with their delicate scent. The fabulous
flowers unfurl from silky buds to decorate the bare stems each March and April.
As the flowers fade, mid-green foliage opens, covering the branches of this
elegant Star Magnolia until autumn. Slow growing and with a compact habit, Magnolia
stellata 'Royal Star' is a hardy deciduous shrub that’s ideal for woodland
borders and smaller gardens, where it will look amazing if underplanted with
colourful spring bulbs. Height and spread: 3m (10’).
Plant height and
spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant
size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season,
meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Plant magnolias in
a sunny or semi shaded position with protection from cold winds and hard spring
frosts. Magnolias prefer a rich, moist, well drained, acid to neutral soil.
Incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil
prior to planting, mixing it thoroughly and deeply. Magnolia plants establish
quicker when their roots are shaded. Following planting, apply a mulch of
rotted bark chips, manure or garden compost, taking care not to mound it around
the stem of the plant. When growing magnolia Sunrise in a patio container use a
blend of ericaceous compost mixed with John Innes No. 3.
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young magnolias are
fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted bark chips
or garden compost to the base of the plant. Magnolias require little
pruning other than to maintain their shape and remove damaged stems or
crossing stems.
