Very rare British BBC album 'Upshares, Downshares' (2010), produced in aid of Children in Need in 2010.

It features Alexander (Sandy) Faris's theme tune for "Upstairs, Downstairs", called "The Edwardians" in a vast array of styles and performances here - vocal, jazz, disco, orchestral, swing, rock, etc. Some tracks are performed by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

The theme was used as the title track for the BBC Radio 4's "PM" news programme, 'Upshares, Downshares'.

Faris's theme tune for "Upstairs, Downstairs", called "The Edwardians", was also used as the title music for the "Upshares, Downshares" finance slot on BBC Radio 4's "PM" news programme. Cover versions of the theme, in a variety of styles from bossa nova to heavy metal, were submitted by a number of listeners and eventually compiled into this CD, released on November 2010 in aid of the Children in Need charity appeal, for which it raised over £70,000.

A message from Eddie Mair: "There is no adequate explanation for what goes on inside this CD box. "Upshares, Downshares" was a regular item on PM on BBC Radio 4 in which Nils Blythe guided us all through a credit crunch and recession. Yet the CD in here has no information on growth figures, mortgage supply or the FTSE. If you have any idea why any of this happened, please tell us. Thank you."
