The Hartz4 clutch is the small frame engine equivalent: a motorcycle 4 clutch style. The PIAGGIO clutch that the small frame engines are equipped with three clutch discs. Higher performance clutch combinations have separation problems due to lack of space for their extra plates. The Hartz4 clutch solves this problem through the use of a sintered friction plate surfacing clutch that is manufactured from a special mix of materials and has multiple grooves to channel excess engine oil away from the clutch plate contact area. Improved oil channeling raises the clutch thermal range, thinner and harder-surfacing friction plate maintain lower separation distances, ensuring cleaner separation in all situations. The increased thermal resistance also ensures a more consistent clutch release point and resulting better definition. Due to the additional friction plate and the width of the increased friction areas, the torque delivery is noticeably more direct and also more powerful. This clutch has established itself through the development of extensive, series-produced ESC and DBM systems successfully in combination with engine configurations of 30 hp or more. Depending on the model and assembly the crankshaft clutch cover may require an additional 2mm thick spacer washer. Result: Finally modern clutch plate technology for Vespa scooters.
