Montreal Canadians vs Chicago Black Hawks
Game 1 at the Forum – Montreal begins with a close 3-2 win, the teams alternating goals as Henri Richard, Camille Henry, John Ferguson, Matt Ravlich and Yvan Cournoyer all score in that order.
Game 2
at the Forum – Canadiens score a goal in both the second and final periods
(Jean Beliveau and Dick Duff) to take a two games to none lead in the series.
Game 3
at Chicago Stadium – Black Hawks come alive after Ferguson scores the game’s first
goal in the second period. Phil
Esposito, Kenny Wharram and Chico Maki all get the puck past Gump Worsley for a
3-1 win.
Game 4
at Chicago Stadium – Charlie Hodge starts in goal for the Canadiens in this
game. Fred Stanfield of Chicago scores
first, but after Beliveau ties the game in the second period, Hawks break out
with four goals in the third period (Bobby Hull, Bill Hay, Hull and Doug
Jarrett) to seal 5-1 win and tie up the series at two games apiece.
Game 5
at the Forum – Montreal Goalie Charlie Hodge shuts out the Black Hawks in this
one, while his teammates score at least one goal in each period, a total of 6
in all, by Beliveau, Duff, Bobby Rousseau, Beliveau, Richard and J.C. Tremblay.
Game 6
at Chicago Stadium – Ralph Blackstrom gets one past Glenn Hall in the first
period and Canadiens lead 1-0. Finally
in the third period Moose Vasko ties the game for Chicago at 1-1. But the game winner is by Doug Mohns two
minutes later, and the Hawks have again evened the series at 3-3!
Game 7
at the Forum – Goalie Gump Worsley has never been on a Stanley Cup championship
team and he’s back in goal for Montreal for the final game. From the outset, the Canadiens put
tremendous pressure on Chicago and score (Beliveau) within only 14 seconds of
the faceoff! It’s a frantic first
period with Dick Duff scoring about five minutes later and two quick goals
(Cournoyer and Richard) toward the end of the first period. There is no further scoring in the game, as
Worsley shuts out the Black Hawks and the Canadiens become the new 1965 Stanley
Cup Champions! Celebrations both on the
ice, at the town hall and victory parade are shown, ending this rare, original
film!
