A superb and rare photo of the Maserati 250 ohv model during its world introduction at the Milan Motor Show of 1955.

Today Maserati is known for their magnificent and highly luxurious automobiles. However, Maserati also has its famous roots in the motorcycle world. Carlo Maserati was the oldest of the six Maserati brothers. He worked for the Italian Carcano motorcycle factory, where he designed, built, raced in the years 1899 and 1900!

In the 1950s and early 1960s Maserati designed and built a number of interesting motorcycles that were highly advanced for their time. This is clearly shown by the 246cc (bore and stroke 70x64 mm) overhead valve single cylinder model that was introduced at the Milan Motor Show of 1955, see photo.

This technical gem featured a twin-spark cylinderhead with overhead valves, double helical primary gears and…. a disc front brake! It was enclosed and mechanically operated. This Maserati was probably the first ever production motorcycle with a disc brake! Disc brakes slowly entered the motorcycle racing world in the 1960s, followed by production machinery thereafter.

A very historic and nice non period photo that highlights Maserati technological advancement as well as its history on two wheels! Therefore it is printed in a nice large format of ca. 8" x 12" (ca. 20 x 30 cm).
