Frederick H. Thompson (1844-1909), Maine photographer was originally in business with his brother Zenas as a manufacturer of carriages in Portland at the turn of the century.  He participated in the early amateur photography community as a member of the Portland Camera Club which eventually led to his full time endeavor in the field of photography.  He opened the Thompson Art Company, TACO around 1908 following the model laid down by Wallace Nutting.  Following Nutting and Sawyer, Thompson photographed “nature studies” as well as “colonial” scenes which aligned with much of the Arts & Crafts and Mission lifestyles and designs of the day.  Thompson died by his own hand in 1909 due to financial concerns, however his son, also Frederick M. Thompson kept the business active until 1923.
