Dave
Cartwright was a well-known name on the UK Folk Circuit during the 1960 and 1970s
particularly. His first LP “Middle of the Road” came out in 1971, produced on
budget equipment in Bev Pegg’s home studio. Nat Joseph of Transatlantic Records
was impressed, and signed Dave to his label. Dave made three albums for
Transatlantic and a further one for the DJM label. His on-stage live performances
were always excellent. His career could have carried on in this upward trend, but,
unfortunately, “he took his eye off the ball” one might say. The story is too
long even to briefly say more at this stage, however Dave was a very talented
chap.
Back in 1965,
just after he’d started out on the folk scene, he recorded an EP at Highway
Records in Redditch with just him and his 12-string guitar, singing five songs
that he did regularly at local folk clubs. I would imagine that at the most,
there would have been fifty produced, maybe even less of this EP.
Sadly, Dave
died suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack on Saturday 8th
August 2015 at the age of 72
Anyway, for
posterity, a limited batch of copies of this EP have been produced on CD in
order to preserve a bit of Dave’s musical history.
