Jazz Icons Ella Fitzgerald: Live in '57 & '63 B/W Live Music Classic Jazz DVD.

DVD is brand new sealed and comes with free P&P.

Two of Ella's first filmed concerts before live audiences are included on this dvd -and they are quite different.

The first one, from an informal concert venue in Belgium in 1957, is by far the most memorable because it's like a slice of real life. It is the earliest available film of Ella in a live concert. Here Ella's voice sounds noticeably fresh and her singing is unforgettable. Ella looks happy, she is enjoying herself, and there is a sense of spontaneity to the whole filmed recording. The audience are loving it and Ella herself is almost completely unaware of the camera. You just wish this concert would never finish !

The second Concert is a Swedish tv-studio recording, six years later. There are some unforgettable numbers, and though Ella sings marvellously, and as always with complete sincerity, this concert lacks some of the joyous informality of the earlier Belgian concert. Here the filming is of a better technical quality (and there is a studio audience).

Fans of Ella need not hesitate about this dvd: these are rare early appearances from Ella at her best. The remarkable 1957 Concert is definitely one of the most important (and enjoyable!) documents in Ella's entire recorded canon, and not to be missed. Blue skies !
