DESCRIPTION

A very scarce first edition.

In the publisher's original full cloth binding.

James Clarence Mangan was an Irish poet and translator, best known for his translations of Goethe. This collection comprises of his German anthology, featuring authors such as Schiller and Kerner, alongside his own poems as part an Irish anthology to the rear of the book.

With a biographical introduction by John Mitchell and publisher's advertisements to the rear of the book.

With the previous owner's ink signature to the front blank.


CONDITION

In the original cloth binding. Externally, excellent with some light shelf wear to the edges. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with the odd small mark and some age-toning to the edges. Ink inscription to the front blank. Age-toning to the edges. Several pages throughout are uncut.
