David Bellamy is well known for his atmospheric water-colours of the landscape. He is a member of the British Watercolour Society and his paintings can be found in private collections around the world. Highly regarded as a teacher of art, he has a tremendous following among leisure painters, many of whom have attended his extremely popular courses for watercolourists.

He also gives demonstrations and talks, and has produced a number of successful videos on watercolour painting. He has written 18 books, produced eight DVDs by APV Films of Chipping Norton, plus other films on expeditions. He also writes articles on painting and the countryside, and is a regular contributor to Leisure Painter magazine.

David's work is always done from first-hand experience: if he needs to paint a polar bear on a glacier he will go in search of one, well aware that by making the effort nature will usually reward him with something special.

Nature energises him, but he is deeply concerned for the future care of our landscape environment. His more injudicious moments have included falling over a crocodile in East Africa, abseiling down into the heart of a glacier, and trying to discourage grizzly bears with his appalling singing. He lives in the upper Wye Valley in Mid-Wales with his artist wife Jenny Keal.

"IN 'DEVELOPING YOUR WATERCOLOURS' DAVID BELLAMY SHOWS HOW TO BUILD ON YOUR EXISTING PAINTING SKILLS TO PRODUCE INSPIRED WATER-COLOURS THAT ARE FULL OF VITALITY AND ATMOSPHERE.

Developing Your Watercolours is a sequel to David Bellamy's bestselling Watercolour Landscape Course. Although it is aimed at those who already have some experience in watercolour painting, much of the book will also be of interest and value to beginners and more experienced artists alike.

In Developing Your Watercolours the emphasis is on the importance of direct observation and on those techniques that will enable you to build on your existing skills. The book is structured to encourage a sense of achievement at every stage:

The first section concentrates on suitable art materials and how to get the most out of sketching and painting on location; The second section is concerned with using source material effectively to give your work greater visual impact; The third section explores colour and techniques to enable you to create a powerful sense of atmosphere and vitality in your work; The fourth section looks at ways of continuing your progress, exhibiting your work and exploring new directions

A key feature is the series of practical exercises, linked to a gallery of paintings at the end of the book. These exercises, together with several step-by-step demonstrations, offer an ideal opportunity for putting newly learned skills into practice, as well as providing numerous possibilities for interpreting painting subjects creatively.

Developing Your Watercolours is superbly illustrated with David Bellamy's evocative paintings, a marvellous source of inspiration for all aspiring watercolourists. It is also full of practical information on how to develop the skills needed to produce watercolours that have that elusive quality something special."
