A superb and rare photo of 1958 F1 World Champion Mike Hawthorn in his Ferrari Formula 1 race car, on his way to 2ND  place behind race winner Stirling Moss in the 1958 F1 Grand Prix of Marocco, which was ridden at the circuit of Ain Diab on the 19TH of October 1958. He went on to become World Champion that year.

Mike Hawthorn was born in 1929 and made his Formula One debut at the 1952 Belgian Grand Prix, finishing an impressive 4th place. This performance is the best ever grand prix debut by any British world champion. He would later win his first Grand Prix, at only the 9th attempt, when he won the 1953 French Grand Prix at Reims. In 1955, Hawthorn was the winner of the 24 hours of Le Mans race, despite being involved in the terrible crash that killed 82 spectators. Hawthorn was the winner of the 1958 Formula One Championship. With only one win that year against four wins of Stirling Moss, he benefited greatly from the gentlemanliness of Moss as shown at the Portuguese Grand Prix of Porto. After winning the title, Hawthorn immediately announced his retirement from Formula One. A matter of only months later, on January 22, 1959, Hawthorn died in an automobile accident on the A3 Guildford bypass. In Farnham, the town where he lived up to the time of his death, Hawthorn ran the Tourist Trophy Garage. Jaguars, Rileys, Fiats and Ferraris were serviced there.

Ferrari initially was founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929 as Scuderia Ferrari, the company sponsored drivers and manufactured race cars before moving into production of street legal vehicles in 1947 as Ferrari S.p.A.. Ferrari's cars are among the most desirable of vehicles to drive. Throughout its history, the company has been noted for its continued participation and incredibly passion in racing, especially in Formula One, where it has largely enjoyed great success, especially during the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, late 1990s, and 2000s. Finally, after years of financial struggles, Enzo Ferrari sold the company's sports car division to the Fiat group in 1969 in order to help ensure continued financial backing for the foreseeable future. Enzo Ferrari himself retained control of the racing division until his death in 1988 at the age of 90.
