ORIGINAL  EMBOSSED LEATHER PLAQUE WW ll U S ARMY AIR FORCE B-24

Original embossed leather of a W W ll United States Army Air Force B-24. The B-24 Liberator was an American 4 engine heavy bomber of which only 13 examples survive today.

In 1941 these B-24s were shipped to Great Britain where they were named Liberator.  They were invaluable in destroying German U-boats, stopping passage of supplies for Allied Transport.

In January of 1943, the B-24s did the first attack on German Soil, bombing a submarine yard in Germany.  This raid on Gotha devastated German aircraft production, with the precision bombing by the B-24s.   They became the Allies most trusted bombers.

On February 24, 1943, 3 squadrons of the B-24 Liberator were sent to Germany to strike Hitler’s Luftwaffe, an important production facility in Germany.

This is a special hand embossed leather framed piece of the “Flying Sheriff” B-24J Liberator Ship 240.  491st Bomber GRP. 854ath Bomber Squadron, Crew 1142 Wolfpack, in honor of Captain Thomas E. Burns.

Beautifully done with a frame size of 22 inches by 18 inches and the leather image size of 18 ½ x 15 inches.
