STUNNING EXAMPLE OF QUALITY KOSTA BODA ART GLASS
Presenting an exquisite hand blown art glass melon designed by Gunnel Sahlin for the quality Scandinavian glass makers, Kosta Boda. This piece is from the Frutteria series produced between 1989 and 1993 as a part of the exclusive, limited edition artist collection.
This sleek hollow-formed piece perfectly displays the unique frit surface treatment for which Sahlin is renowned. Frits of radiant yellow were added to the original gather and worked into the surface of the sleekly curved form as it was blown into shape. The frits of glass meld with the gather, perfectly following the contours of the glass to create a unique and individual surface treatment.
The frits create an appealing speckled surface with a random cellular structure adding a delightful subtle texture to the form.
The fruit is perfectly completed with an applied green stem, its smooth finish beautifully contrasting the mosaic of textured yellow colour to the body.
SIZE: This impressive piece stands approx 120mms tall and measures 110mms in diameter.
CONDITION: This piece is presented in very good vintage condition with just the tiniest of fleabite sized nibbles to the tip of the stem noticeable only on extremely close examination with a magnifier but mentioned for complete accuracy. This piece has been very well cared for and presents spectacularly.
MARKS: This piece is beautifully signed to the base "Kosta Boda Artist Coll G. Sahlin".
THE DESIGNER: Sahlin began work for Kosta Boda in 1986, and has become a highly regarded and widely collected glass artist. Her works are widely exhibited and feature in many high profile collections.
