Description: Original engraved print from "Het Groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid, vertoonende de opkomst, voortgang en ondergang der Actie, Bubbel en Windnegotie, in Vrankryk, Engeland, en de Nederlanden, gepleegt in den Jaare MDCCXX �", Amsterdam, 1720. (The Great Mirror of Folly, which is actually a collection on all printsmaps and text, published in 1720, satirizing the Englishman John Law, his Mississippi Company, and the international land and trading speculation in worthless shares of the South Sea Bubble of 1719-1720, which resulted in an international scandal.

Subject: Plate 42: 'Het uitgeteerde en stervende actie boomtje.' (The tree of shares withering and dying.) The investment tree dies when it is fed by wind trade and foolishness. A broadside on the South Sea Bubble, claiming that excessive speculation on the stock market destroys the economy; showing a palatial house and garden, in the foreground a putto holding an anchor, on the R a dying tree.
Condition: Excellent given its age. General age related toning and occasional light staining as visible on scan. Original fold as issued. Please study scan carefully.
